Dubai's Theme Parks Compared: Which One Is Worth Your Day

A theme park is the most expensive single day most visitors spend in Dubai. With tickets from around AED 225 to AED 365 per person, a family of four can easily spend more than a thousand dirhams before anyone has bought lunch.

That makes picking the right one matter. Dubai has four major theme parks, and they are not interchangeable. One is fully indoors, three are outdoors. One is built for small children, one for football fans, and two for everyone else in very different ways.

Here is how they actually compare, and how to avoid paying more than you need to.

The Four Parks at a Glance

IMG Worlds of Adventure. The world's largest indoor theme park, near Global Village. Marvel, Cartoon Network, dinosaurs. Air conditioned and open all year.

LEGOLAND Dubai. Outdoor park designed for children aged 2 to 12, with more than 40 rides and attractions, plus a separate water park next door.

The first decision is not which park is best. It is whether you need to be indoors.

Indoor or Outdoor Decides More Than You Think

IMG Worlds is the only fully indoor theme park on this list, and that changes everything about when you can go. It works in August at 2 PM just as well as it does in January.

The Dubai Parks and Resorts parks are outdoors. Motiongate, Real Madrid World, and LEGOLAND involve long walks and queues in the open air, with shaded areas but no escape from the heat. They have also closed for part of the summer in recent seasons, so check they are open before planning a summer visit around them.

If you are visiting between roughly May and September, IMG Worlds is the realistic option. Between October and April, all four are in play.

IMG Worlds of Adventure

Gate price AED 365. Online typically from around AED 175 to 265. Children under 1.05 metres free.

IMG Worlds of Adventure covers roughly 1.5 million square feet under a single roof, split into zones: Marvel, Cartoon Network, the Lost Valley with its dinosaurs, IMG Boulevard, and the Haunted Hotel.

Who It Suits

Marvel fans. This is the strongest superhero content in the region, with the Avengers Battle of Ultron motion ride and Thor's spin ride among the highlights.

Mixed age groups. Cartoon Network suits younger children, the Lost Valley coasters suit teenagers, and nobody has to deal with the weather.

Summer visitors. No contest.

What to Know

Children under 1.05 metres enter free. Above that height, they pay full price. Measure before you go.

The Haunted Hotel is for ages 15 and over, and 15 to 18 year olds must show ID.

No outside food or drink at all, including water bottles. Security will dispose of them at the entrance.

The park opens at midday and a typical visit lasts eight to nine hours. The big coasters, Predator and Velociraptor, build long queues, so head to them early.

Motiongate Dubai

From around AED 295.

Motiongate Dubai is built around three film studios, with zones themed on DreamWorks, Columbia Pictures, and Lionsgate. Expect rides based on Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, The Hunger Games, and more, 29 rides and attractions in total.

Who It Suits

Teenagers and adults who want proper coasters with strong theming.

Film fans, particularly families who grew up on the DreamWorks animations.

First timers choosing one outdoor park. Several comparison guides rank Motiongate slightly ahead of IMG on ride quality and theming, while IMG wins on the indoor advantage and Marvel content.

What to Know

It is a full day. Plan on at least five to six hours to cover the park properly.

It is outdoors. Go in the cooler months and start early.

It sits beside LEGOLAND and Real Madrid World, which makes multi park tickets worth considering, as explained below.

Real Madrid World

From around AED 295.

Real Madrid World is a football themed park dedicated to the club, with rides, interactive experiences, and sports games built around its history and players.

Who It Suits

Football fans, and specifically Real Madrid fans. That is the honest answer. For a family where one person loves the club and nobody else cares about football, Motiongate next door is usually the better shared day.

What to Know

It opens from midday, later than some of the other parks at the resort.

It pairs naturally with Motiongate on a two park ticket, since the two sit side by side.

LEGOLAND Dubai

From around AED 225 through resellers. Children under 3 free.

LEGOLAND Dubai is designed for children aged 2 to 12, with more than 40 rides, shows, and attractions, and an indoor, air conditioned Miniland built from millions of LEGO bricks. The LEGOLAND Water Park next door adds around 20 slides and water attractions.

Who It Suits

Families with children around 4 to 10. That is the age group that gets the most out of it. Toddlers can enjoy parts of it, and many rides have low height minimums.

Who It Does Not Suit

Teenagers and adults without children. Most will find it limited. If your group is mostly older children, Motiongate or IMG will be a better day.

What to Know

No outside food, except baby food and small meals for special diets. Bags are checked.

Earlier closing times than the other parks, typically around 6 PM on weekdays.

The water park is closed on Wednesdays. Easy to miss, and it catches families out.

Almost Nobody Should Pay the Gate Price

This is the single most useful thing to know before booking any of these parks.

The advertised gate price is rarely what anyone actually pays. IMG Worlds lists AED 365 at the gate, and the same general admission ticket is widely available online for considerably less, often somewhere between AED 175 and AED 265 depending on the seller and season. The same pattern applies across the Dubai Parks and Resorts parks.

Before buying, compare the official website with two or three authorised resellers, and check whether the ticket is dated or open dated. Open dated tickets give you flexibility if the weather or plans change.

UAE residents should also check for resident rates and promotions, which tend to be significantly lower than tourist pricing.

Multi Park and Combo Tickets

Dubai Parks and Resorts multi park passes let you visit two or more of Motiongate, Real Madrid World, LEGOLAND, and the LEGOLAND Water Park for considerably less than separate tickets. For families with two days to spare, this is usually the best value in the whole theme park market.

IMG plus Dubai Parks combos also exist through resellers, letting you visit IMG and one Dubai Parks park on separate days for a bundled price.

The rule for combos is simple. Only buy one if you will genuinely use every part of it. A two park ticket is poor value if exhaustion means you leave the second park after an hour.

Getting There

IMG Worlds is on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road next to Global Village, around 25 minutes from Downtown. Parking is free.

Dubai Parks and Resorts is further out, near the border with Abu Dhabi, around 40 minutes or more from Downtown. All three outdoor parks share the same site, so you can move between them on foot.

A taxi or ride hailing app works for both. Some resellers also bundle hotel transfers, which is worth considering for Dubai Parks and Resorts given the distance.

Which One Should You Actually Choose

You can only do one, and it is summer. IMG Worlds.

You can only do one, and it is the cooler months. Motiongate for teenagers and adults, IMG for mixed ages and Marvel fans.

Your children are between 2 and 10. LEGOLAND, and add the water park if you have a second day.

Someone in the group lives for football. Real Madrid World, ideally combined with Motiongate.

You have two days and want the best value. A Dubai Parks and Resorts multi park pass.

Your group includes teenagers who want a scare. IMG, for the Haunted Hotel, as long as they are 15 or older.
