Bur Dubai Grand Mosque
Originally built in 1900 as a Quranic school (“kuttab”), the structure was rebuilt in 1960, and again in 1998, reflecting the architectural elegance of the early 20th century. Featuring a striking 70 m-high lighthouse-like Anatolian-style minaret and a mesmerizing cluster of 45 small and 9 larger domes, the mosque’s sandy-grey façade, Qur’anic inscriptions, wooden shutters, and hand-crafted stained glass windows blend harmoniously with the old city fabrics.
It stands as a landmark of spiritual and cultural significance in Dubai. Non-Muslims may visit the grounds and the minaret - but not the prayer hall. The general visiting hours are: Saturday to Thursday: 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM and Friday: 4:30 PM to 10:00 PM, after the Friday prayers have concluded.
